1. Heat the oven to 350°F.

2. Spread a thin, even layer of “crackers” on a baking sheet. Top with the “cheese.” Top the “cheese” with the “vegetable.” Throw some “meat” on all of this for good measure. See note.

3. Put the nachos in the oven and bake until the cheese has melted (if it’s the kind of cheese that melts) or until the ingredients have warmed to your liking and palate. Dip into “sauce,” if applicable.

If you don’t have enough fixins in your cupboards to make the most desperate of desperation nachos, a variation on this recipe is Bodega Nachos, wherein you run to the closest convenience store and gather any items that might seem fit to make up a plate of nachos. You have slightly more choice, so the nachos are inevitably seasoned with less despair, but delicious nonetheless.
